Sean Mooney was an aspiring professional footballer but he took an M&A job with Lehman Brothers (in July 2008) when he realized that no level of fitness could compensate for his average touch. He is now working on the Commodities Sales desk at Goldman Sachs.
In an attempt to delay the metamorphosis from athlete to out of shape desk jockey, Sean has been signing up for various charity challenges over the past few years - notably three white collar boxing events that combined have raised more than 400K for charity (people are willing to pay a lot these days to see a banker get punched)
He has summited the stairs of the CN tower five times in a row during a charity climb and ran an ultramarathon from Montreal to Ottawa in Canada.
Having not rode a bike since he out grew his childhood mountain bike at 12 years old, and having never swam in open water before the Dover qualification, he is looking forward to the whole experience of this race. He is also hoping to learn a lot as he will be attempting his first ironman distance triathalon three weeks later - all because a colleague bet him (on 19Aug11) that he couldn't finish an ironman race with less than one month to prepare!
